Welcome to Cocktail Dive

Let’s explore what the Cocktail Dive Methodology includes, how Inside Hospitality can help your business, and how you can start growing your business today.

Hi, we’re Anthony D’agostino & Nick Calabro and we’re here to help you make more money, become more hospitable, manage and operate your establishments better, and how to open one of your own.

Since 1930, Anthony has been tending, operating, and opening bars, restaurants, and clubs. As Anthony and Nick have worked together, they discovered and identified many tactics they use in their everyday operations that can help bars everywhere.

What is Cocktail Dive

Here's what you get

There are many ways to go about becoming the most hospitable server or restaurant owner possible. This website is about getting you to operate, manage, and serve better.

In our experience, the best approach to learning hospitality and opening an establishment of your own is the following:

Cocktail Dive is a premium training and mentorship platform that takes you through each and every step necessary whether you’re trying to get hired at a bar or start one of your own with the focus of Cocktail Dive’s Inside Hospitality Methodology.

In other words, be hospitable with your staff and they’ll be hospitable to your patrons.

We owners, managers, and operators invest our energy into our direct inferior. When they’re satisfied and have everything they need, they’ll ensure their patrons are satisfied and have everything they need.

Operating or starting an establishment takes a lot of upfront work but it’s entirely possible with the right attitude.

Cocktail Dive Step One

Inside Hospitality

Just like a website is clearly essential to run a successful online business, Inside Hospitality is essential to run a successful bar or restaurant.

Inside Hospitality is the methodology developed by Cocktail Dive that revolves around treating the people you manage the same way you wish them to treat the people they manage all the way down to how your customers are treated.

  1. When you operate a bar, you have to ensure the staff you directly manage has everything they need to serve the people they directly manage. For example, if your bartender manager is served to the fullest extent with the tools and resources needed to create happy and effective bartenders, they’ll, in turn, serve your establishment’s patrons with that same level of hospitality.
  2. You are fully focused on your direct managers. When you’re solely focused on only who is directly under you, you allow yourself more time and energy to go into the quality of life of everyone on your staff.
  3. You ensure every member of your staff — from managers, to bartenders, to cleanup crew — are treated with the hospitality you wish your patrons to receive. For example, when every tier of management and staff are given the attention and attitude you wish to exude to your customers, they’ll have no alternative but to return that mindset back while working.
Understanding these steps alone are exactly what will help you operate a successful and comfortable establishment that people will be eager and excited to return to. You have more control, your bar or restaurant is more professional, and you can truly mold the type of hospitality you wish to convey through your establishment.

Cocktail Dive Step Two

Crafts & Bartending

Proper bartending training for you and your staff is one of the greatest investments you’ll make for your bar or restaurant.

Click here for our in-depth course on bartending and mixology.

Why is mixology so valuable to your business? Because although your main product is the atmosphere, the hospitality, and the comfort you provide with your bar, the drinks are the product that will ensure people don’t just return, but return in groups who want to enjoy the same quality drinks their friends are enjoying.

Updating your menus and ensuring your drinks are coinciding with the seasons and current events will guarantee no one is getting bored visiting your bar and that they’ll happily return every night they want to let loose.

Cocktail Dive Step Three

Opening your establishment

Now that you have the craft and the attitude nailed down and you’re performing at extremely high levels in the hospitality industry, it may be time you take charge and open a bar or restaurant of your own.

  • Should you open a bar, restaurant, club, or even a hotel? We teach you the benefits, drawbacks, and hurdles you’ll face when opening up any of these types of establishments and how you can ensure success for any of them.
  • What kind of bar should you open? We show you the types of bars, how they started, and what it takes to make a neighborhood bar, dive bar, or a sports bar succeed.
  • Creating a business model. What is essential prior to and while finding locations and forming the concept for your establishment? Understanding your main streams of revenue and how much it’ll cost to make everything run smoothly will set the ground work for your business moving forward.
  • Finding a location. The whereabouts of your establishment have to fit the concept, pricing, and atmosphere. You’ll never open a high-end cocktail bar in a low-income suburb just like you wouldn’t open a rustic dive bar in a high-net-worth city.
  • Paperwork, licensing, and taxes. The bureaucracy you’re going to face while opening and operating your business will take up a lot of your time. We share the tips and tricks used in our own establishments so you can be prepared for anything.

Ultimately, every bar or restaurant will come with its own unique issues — we teach you how to anticipate things like negotiating deals and pleasing the local fire department so you can focus on your bar.
